Default Steering box shafts

Are the steering shafts within the column of 46-48 Ford and Mercury cars the same length? Answer determines whether I can order a Ford shaft with worm for my 48 Mercury.

Mercury shaft is longer by about 4" plus. Don't remember exactly how much.
Longer wheelbase on the Merc by 4".

I've got a 1946 merc steering box, could measure that. Let me know.
The four inches sounds right to me.
