Default A Neat 1946 Ford Assembly Line Photo

A neat photo taken during a strike at the River Rouge in 1946 is up today with the press caption on The Old Motor.

That's cool. I can't remember ever seeing a '46 with the Deluxe emblem on the top horizontal bar; I've only seen it on the driver's side fender under the headlight. Vic

That's because it's a Deluxe not a Super Deluxe.

Perfect pic for people to see the differance between 46 grille stainless and chromed pot-metal pieces and those of 47-48. Also, bumper guards, too bad bumper is wrapped.

I'd take that lineup of front clips now. 8<} So would all of you, Huh?

That would explain it. Guess I've never seen a Deluxe.

It also looks like it has the 1942 and early 1946 styles air cleaner installed.

Also interesting to see the front clip assembles to the chassis before the body drop.

Also to note the color of the fender welt between the front fenders and lower panel.

Are those radiator fins messed up on that lead clip? Did not even make it to body assembly! If so - amazing what happened on the line when brand new - and we nit pick every ding and dong on our 70+ year old babies

I think it is interesting they left the steering wheels off for the body drop, makes good sense. Bet it was fun making the lighting harness and dash harness connections!

The "Deluxe" on the grille bar is interesting. I have never seen one either. We have a 46 so every show or cruise I always head to the 46 cars to talk to the owner. So, I have seen dozens of 46 cars and they have all been super deluxe models. Hmmm

I wondered that too but it looks like something on the photograph as the same pattern extends up onto the radiator top. Doesn't really have the appearance of dented fins.

Is the battery location correct? I remember the batt. on the firewall not up by the radiator?

It's the camera angle/perspective. Look how close to the front the back bumper looks.

I agree on the camera angle perspective, if you notice on the driver side between the fender and bumper you can see what I believ to be the metal fuel tube line, the one that comes across the firewall, from the angle makes it looks like it would be located where the oil cannister would be on the head.

Hi everyone!

This picture is a treasure, I can see my Coupe I think It´s the Fourth one, in the line (jaja).
Is there a way to know where my car was assembly? It´s difficult to know this?

Thank for comment.

Harylufa.

So does this mean a "correct" restoration would have torn paper between the bumper guards and the bumper?

My 46 is a Deluxe, not Super deluxe. Looks the same as the pic.

The floors are wood blocks with a tar to stick and seal them down. I used to work there. Dave

It looks like the third car has the Super Deluxe emblem under the drivers headlight.

Hi John. I saw a Deluxe Tudor about a year ago at a local car show. I remembered the column, steering wheel, and dash being a chocolate brown with no clock and only a driver's side ash tray. Those deluxe grill emblems fetch a pretty penney on E-Bay. Steve

Would anyone happen to know the part number for the license plate bracket for a 46 Ford. Just like on the picture. Just the black bracket? I am needing one bad! Would like to have a new one if possible.

Another interesting thing is the way they put these cars in batches by color. I wonder how many were in a batch, and did they mix the deluxe and super deluxe?
