Default 1934, five window coupe. $?

This '34 is a very old, amature restoration. It sat in a garage on flat tires for 25 years. California Car. Zero rust. Engine was rebuilt, tranny rebuilt, New juice brakes and master cylinder. All new wiring. Some cracks in the paint. Original running boards, original headliner, new glass, complete door glass channels and door seals. Replaced roof kit in perfect conditon. New gas tank with original '34 sending unit to dashboard. Very nice original wood graining. New, rebuilt shocks. New exhaust system.
What is a ball park value of this baby?

Whatever somebody is willing to pay that satisfies the owner. Those cars are way past popular. I don't venture to guesstimate on a car that is way out of my aFORDability range. Put it on flee pay with a reserve somewhere in outer space and see what people will bid on it if you really want to know.

You might get an idea of how much not to pay if you look at the 5 window body with rust on E Pay for a mere $25.000

Jim,
Hard to tell from pictures, but my guess is $45,000 if running an driving.
Some one could enjoy it as is or spend another $20,000 and have a good $55,000 car. My vote would be to keep like it is and enjoy it.

But he said, "a very old, amateur restoration."

I would lean more towards $30,000 to $35,000.

If you ask a hundred different people, you'll get a hundred different answers
as to it's value, but with NO money changing hands, it's easy to throw-out a
fantasy price on it, don't mean much though.

Place it in the classifieds with a high-end price, you think it's worth, and see what
Actual Prices People Offer You, then you'll have a little better idea of it's value.

Thanks much for your replies on this.
Now I have a pretty good idea on how much to insure it for with my State Farm guy now that I have it on the road.

One sold for 35 around here two years ago in a lot worse shape and with a seized engine and faded out paint so I would say 35 would be the low end. It also depends on where it is located.

Pricing a car for the current market value vs. pricing it for insurance are two different things.

If the car is damaged, repairing it will not fall in the category of a "good deal". The amateur restoration will not save you anything on the repair.

I bought a '36 roadster for $26k last fall in similar condition. That is where I based the $30-$35.

If you want your full exposure of loss covered, may want to adjust the value up.

Remember to get yourself covered just as adequately with liability insurance. Hate to loose everything else because of a loss with the car.

Unless State Farm gives you a real good deal on your insurance it would be cheaper to go to Grundy, Hagerty, etc. I moved all my old cars from State Farm to Grundy and saved a lot of money. I still have State Farm on the newer cars and house, but they were pricey on my old cars.

My local insurance agent that insures our house and transportation is a car guy and also provides Hagerty so he was the one who came up with the figure or agreed value. I would think any insurance agent would have access to values. I have never been covered by State Farm but two times I was on the other end of them, both times I was not at fault. Very tough to get settlements, just on property, not any injuries . You would think they would be happy to just get someones car repairs paid for and not a neck brace.

I am going to ad to TJ's recommendation . I have a good friend that has State Farm for his 32 Five window. On our recent trip to Canada the car got some serious damage from some major road debri that wasn't cleaned up and an 18 wheeler . The car was a very nice, fresh black car. State Farm would only insure it for a little above 50k as a stated value which was low but it was done right before the trip and he just went with it . Nobody expects anything to ever happen right ?? Well it did and the damage for the repaint, rechrome, new glass etc etc was a little over 30k at a reputable shop. The car is now done and fixed and State Farm is fighting them all the way . The owner didn't want to hold up the shop so he has paid for it "out of pocket" . State Farm has tried to total the car , tried to low ball him , tried to threaten him , sent him a check in the mail for 18k and said that is all he gets etc etc . This is currently going on as we speak . It is a very stressfull ordeal. STAY AWAY FROM STATE FARM FOR CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE !!!!! Like most insurance companies , you will only know how good they are AFTER something bad happens so now you have a damaged car you love and you have to fight to get it fixed after years of paying good money toward a policy you thought would cover it !!! Remember he had a stated value above 50k so it should have been no problem. They said the car is worth under 20k so that is why they wanted to total it . Crazy crazy !!! Don't give yourself the headache . Place like Grundy,Hagerty and afew others are proven and are not any more money ...

Good luck , Mike

A friend of mine had a 1964 Corvette stolen and received only $1,000 from State Farm. I was in the auto body repair business for over 20 years and State Farm was the worst insurance co to do business with. They could always do the job faster than I could and could get the parts cheaper somewhere else.

I have been with State Farm since 1980 and have never had a problem with them paying my claims. They have always fixed my car or my house to my satisfaction. I have made claims on both. I guess it all depends on who, when and where.

You should insure it for what it would cost you to replace the vehicle. You are betting against the insurance company and they always stack the deck in their favor. I would rather be over-insured rather than under-insured. Hope for the best and expect and prepare for the worst. Pete/Ct.
