Default 1940 Ford Rods to Carb

I just got a 1940 Ford and I am having problems with the rods to the carb that are coming apart at the round rubber bushings in the middle . Is there some way that I can use something to keep the parts together thanks Tom

I have used trim cement from 3m to glue the metal to the rubber insert follow directions, also squeeze the outside of the connecter to give it more bite

If originality is not of concern, those small black spring clamps, supplied with fuel filters that come with the short hose pieces, will do the trick without being real visable. Clamps the rod in the rubber real well.
