Do you change your own tires?

I change most of my own tires and balance with an old bubble balancer. 98 % of the time this is adaequate for the speeds I drive.

Do it yourself. It is easy. Also gives you a "feel" for what it was like long ago, especially if you do it on the roadside! like I had to once!

There has been several ways posted but I have to add one more.... When I started to repaint my wheels, I read about putting an old hub/brake drum on a stand for turning while painting... I welded mine onto a 4 ft long piece of heavy metal and used some dead (girlfriend called it "junk") parts. When I need to paint/mount, clamp it to a bench where ever I need it and I'm ready. Works great for painting, mounting wheels on for changing tires and several other tasks.

One thing I haven't seen mention when mounting tires using soap or talc is to make sure and wipe all the lube from the tire and rim beads. I have seen wheels turn inside their tires because of the lube that was used to mount the tire, but the tube doesn't move with the tire and the stem is sheared off. This is not a usual happening, but it does occur on occasion.
