1939 Ford windshield frame
I bought a w/s frame that was already apart. I am making the inserts that hold the top and bottom together. I was told that the inserts are not straight. It looks like straight works. Do they have a bend or are they straight?
Thanks |

Re: 1939 Ford windshield frame
I have pair of bars sitting here and they have a slight side-to-side bend to them. I salvaged them out of a junk '37 or so windshield for a future repair to a chrome frame someone went overboard drilling out stuck screws.

Re: 1939 Ford windshield frame
If I remember correctly, the '37 and '38 closed cars and pickups, where the
upper and lower windshield frames connected at about the middle of frame. In about July '38, Ford changed the connecting point of the upper and lower w/s frame to connect closer to the bottom, about 2/3's the way down from the top of the w/s frame, and carried that thru 1939. Maybe (I don't know for sure), one style used straight, and one style used slightly curved insert connectors ??? .

Re: 1939 Ford windshield frame
HELLO....I hope this helps someone somehow.
I have a '36 Ford pickup and after trying different things "forever" to separate the top and bottom halves of the windshield frame, I decided to "split" it. I removed the two seam clips and then measured center to center on the windshield screws. I then split on the water jet. Then turned the two windshield frame pieces upside and placed into vice on mill. I plunged down with an end mill to remove the old rusted/stuck inserts without destroying the windshield frame pieces. I fabricated new stainless steel inserts and #10-32NF tapped the holes. Bruce Smith Modesto, Ca. |
