Tie rod "standards"?
Is there a recognized safe limit for amount of threads captured in the clamped section of the crossbar? I have a 50 F-1 which needs dropped tie rods, because a 3 inch dropped axle. Not asking for specifics, but what's the minimum threads installed? I have to cut the cross bar down, since the new tie rods are much longer. Right now the stock setup is 48 3/4" center to center. a good enough point to start, but I want to be sure and cut it correctly. IE: a safe amount of threads.

Re: Tie rod "standards"?
Thread 'em in a minimum of the shaft size, better with 1/2 again as much added on. A 1/2'' shaft I would thread in no less than 1/2'', better if 3/4''. This is based on my observations over many years of changing damaged tie rod ends. Not recommending, this is a decision made by the owner. I've changed them with 2 threads screwed in, and with them bottomed out. People attempt to avoid replacing bent spindles by over adjusting tie rod ends.
