Default Roadster to Roadster pickup

I purchased a 1930 roadster with a very nice cowl section, but the back has been cut out for a home made pickup box. Has anyone converted a roadster to a roadster pickup? i have thought about buying a roadster pickup back or extended back from Brookville. I may make it a bit non original to keep the cost reasonable. Will the subrails work if I shorten then? Any help would be appreciated. Repacing all the roadster parts to return it to a roadster car would be cost prohibited.

There is a coupe/pickup in our club and it was done very nicely I think back in the 40's. If the body is still good and just lid is removed then I say go for it. Grab a T box and weld and fill.

The bed alone will likely cost more than the sheet metal required to repair the roadster body. You would also have to get the cross channels, the back panel, the quarter panels, and likely a lot of other piece parts to get a cab looking decent. The body sub rails are pretty simple on the open cab. The roadster ones are a bit more complicated and they are shaped for the body a bit more than the open cab. The seat riser makes them a little different as well but they are close enough that a person may be able to make them work.

I'm not sure if Brookville sells the extended cab parts separately. It would just take a phone call to find out. The bed would have to be altered unless you make your own. There isn't enough room in an open cab for me. I just fit in a roadster if the seat is modified. It just depends on whether a person is big or tall as to the possible fit problems.

Remember that the top is different between the roadster and the roadster pickup.

Subrails tend to rust horribly at the Right rear from acids in the exhaust . Cut away and rest the bed on the chassis frame if it looks shakey, same as pickups.

Back in the 40's for example, you could buy a pickup box that slipped in to the trunk of the roadster or coupe. This would make your car "utility" rather then pleasure and would rate different for gas ration coupons.
