The Working Man's Garage
I see a lot of guys out there with the million dollar garages. And while they have million dollar cars, I think most don't actually lay a finger on anything but the radio buttons. I don't mean that in disrespect, but I would love to see the everyday man's garage. If you have pics post them. I will post mine. I am restoring a 40 truck from a single car garage in southern cali, where space is limited. Let me tell you, what a challenge. If you have any cool features to your garage, post pics and explanations. Thanks

Re: The Working Man's Garage
I'm working out of a one car garage myself. I do have enough room to walk around my truck but it takes my best side stepping Charlie Chaplin impersonation. The big jobs are usually done in the driveway.
I do have the luxury of a crawl space in their. The previous owner built a floor and I can access it via some fold out attic stairs that were put in. It's not particularly well-built (wouldn't stick any motors up there) but it's a nice feature. I'll try to get some pics up. |

Re: The Working Man's Garage
The best investment I made is a two post lift. It is a "back saver" for us old guys.

OldFord2,
Let me know where you live and I will come over and get that green thing on a stand out of your way. It sure would be a shame if you tripped over it. I'm thinking of your safety - of course! |

Re: The Working Man's Garage
For over forty years I worked on our cars & trucks on the driveway or in a two car garage. Four years ago we built a 3,000 sq. ft. garage where we do a lot more than punch the pre- set buttons on the radio. This garage has been on my wish list forever and it was a long time in the making. Now I plan to enjoy it with my friends.

Re: The Working Man's Garage
Half of my work happens in the driveway because I don't have enough space for everything in the garage. The '39 pickup lives in the driveway with the '25 T except for when it rains and I shoehorn the T into the garage. My '67 MG lives on the street.
I may be the biggest organizational freak on the forum, but you gotta make the most of your space! |

Re: The Working Man's Garage
Most of these were taken in 2006, when I took down the old carriage house and built the new garage. It is now insulated and wired. spend atleast 4 hours working in there every day. Sorry so many night pic's I was too busy busting butt during daylight hours. Rod

Re: The Working Man's Garage
I went from a 3 car with 10 foot ceilings to mothers garage [helping her out, she's 87] Yea, it's a little cramped but i was brought up in a 2 car garage in Detroit. Me and my dad connected in those days to build my first project... a 48 Ford F-1 . Well... 2010, Got another F-1. Some things just never change!!! Lol Ken

Re: The Working Man's Garage
I Hadn't heard of another combination Ford and MG lover until I saw the thread from SO Cal. Here is I hope a picture of Merlot the Ford and Dagmar the MG TF. I rebuilt my 34 Pickup in a purpose built 1 1/2 car garage. It is about 25 feet below the road level, and everything had to either hauled down or up over the grass. Several times I called a tow truck to pull things up the hill. My garage is now empty, as I store my vehicles about a 5 block bicycle ride away, and the bike sits in the garage alone, with the lawn mower. Byron.

Re: The Working Man's Garage
It is an odd combination, isn't it Byron?
I started with MGs (my first car was a '65 that I still have) and quite unintentionally added a couple Fords later on. |

Re: The Working Man's Garage
Having several projects limits anyone's space. Wokring on my hillbilly style restoration, and lovin it. Little by little one gets where they are going determination, and as long as your happy with it, then who gives a damn.
