Default vacuum testing

To hook up a vacuum gauge, do I use the vacuum line that feeds the wiper and disturbutor that connects to the base of the carb ?

What I meant to say was I plug it into the base of the carb without the other two connected.

You can leave both connected or just take a reading without them connected.
Using the base of the carb for the reading is the best location your reading will be highest at that point.

This may be slipping by .... but leave the metal tube distributor line connected to the carb base .... its usually soldered pending year/model set up. As Brian noted, just disconnect the rubber hose from the wiper connection.

Photo shows my '47 set-up. Distributor and wiper connections in lower-right center.

Sorry, been out all day in my 35. The reason I use the wiper line is so that the distributor is still plumbed in. That'll give you a more accurate picture of what's going on.

If you haven't discovered this .... here's two good resources for understanding vacuum gauge readings.

That tutorial on vacuum readings was excellent. Now to find a good old working gauge.

I got my vac gauge at AdvancedAuto several years ago and it seems to work fine. However, I've not had a serious problems since that purchase.
