Default Is there a doctor in the house

Was planning on going to Hershey next week but I'm stuck in a hospital with pneumonia and heart problems. I was working on taking the seat out of my 36 Fordor and found a dusty rat skeleton and nest. Have you ever heard of health issues from breathing rat dust?

I don't know much about the Hanta virus but I know about 10 years ago a number of Americans died from breathing rodent dust. The first thing I do when I buy an old car is wear a dust mask and vacuum out all the dirt and mouse droppings and bodies.

Hantavirus, sounds like bad stuff to deal with!!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hantavirus

http://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/index.html

Infection with hantavirus can progress to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), which can be fatal. People become infected through contact with hantavirus-infected rodents or their urine and droppings. The Sin Nombre hantavirus, first recognized in 1993, is one of several New World hantaviruses circulating in the US. Old World hantaviruses, found in Asia, can cause Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS). Rodent control in and around the home remains the primary strategy for preventing hantavirus infection. All cases of Hantavirus infection are reported to the CDC.

During the Bubonic Plague in England, Rat Terriers & other rodent killing Terriers were developed, to kill the RATS & MICE that were carrying the disease!!!!!
When cleaning out ANY OLD CAR, spray it with LOTS of BLEACH, first! !

Bill, my dog is a Rat Fox Terrier, and let me tell you, I never saw a dog that acted more like a cat when there was a rodent or something that looked like a rodent was present. She's been known to walk along like a Robin listening to the ground, then stick her nose in the turf and pull out a mole. Amazing. But never knew about the rat dust but I knew my dog was bred to chase 'em.

Besides Hanta, there's plenty of other stuff there you don't want in your lungs...feces and its load of common bacterias, dried urine, and just plain crud and hair that is dirty and able to irritate your innards mechanically as well as by infection. Be sure your doctor knows what you may have inhaled!

You're right, Jack,
Anyone that has a rodent problem should have a Rat Terrier or Jack Russell. They will also tunnel in, kill gophers, woodchucks, groundhogs, etc, & even snakes! Google Rat Terrier History, and you'll be AMAZED !
RODENT DROPPING IN OLD CARS CAN BE LETHAL!! Ted scooped 5 gallons, out of a '30 Coupe !!

Now I hear of this?
Got my '31 it was full of parts, trash and debris up to all windows.
Been off the road and in a garage for 56 years.
Cleaned it all out with no mask.
Guess I dodged the bullet on that one.
Will keep this in mind on the next one.
Seems like common sense, that's probably why I did not think about it.

I've been wallowing in olde car crud for 50 odd years and I'm still breathing...but I suspect there's a lot of dumb luck in that! Plus, I lived in some third world pits at an early age and probably established considerable antibodies to filth...
In recent years, my main strategy is to hold the nozzle of the big vacuum cleaner in one hand while sweeping out and keep it between me and the dust storm.

Jack, there's a HUGE grain storage in Alexandria, Egypt, that uses a herd of Rat Terriers for Rat & Mice control. They are trained to bring the carcass' to a pile by the Dog Guy ! THEY USE NO INSECTICIDES OF ANY TYPE.
There's a group of "DIGGER" Dogs in New England that rid farmers' fields of burrowing rodents, even ! Sometimes they kill rodents BIGGER than the DOG! Rat Terriers & Jack Russells have an average life span of 18 YEARS ! NOW, back to the regular programming.
