Default 38 39 Deluxe Difference

I've just noticed one interesting difference between my 39 Deluxe and 38 parts car. The rear vent windows have different surfaces. The 39 has plain black frames while the 38 has a shiny chrome or stainless frame. Is this typical of all 38-39 Deluxe Fordors?

Maybe it is the picture, but the '38 window looks longer than the black-framed '39

Well now I am going to have to walk through the snow with a tape measure to check. Seriously, I think it is just the camera angle. I tried to get them close but did not succeed.

How about it 38-39 owners, do you have shiny or black painted frames on your rear vent windows? I have one of each apparently. Just curious.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe black frames were the rule for 39s. But how about 38s. I can't recall seeing another with shiny frames around the window like this parts car. I think it would look good on my black 39 but I don't want to risk switching them and breaking the glass.

I suppose you are mainly asking about the flip-outs on the four-door cars, but my '38 deluxe club coupe has shiny frames on the flip out quarter windows.

Thanks for the replies. It is starting to sound like the 38s were shiny, and 39s black frames.

My 38 deluxe had the original rear wings which were chrome, but badly rusty. I found what I believe was 39 standard frames which are painted. I believe the 38 deluxe had chrome wings like the windshield frame.

Chrome windshield frame on my 39 Deluxe as well. I've been searching the forum for info on replacing the glass as my windshield is pretty cracked up and pitted from time. Sounds like gasket fitting is a bit of a problem unless you can salvage the old one. My 38 parts car is missing the windshield although I might have the frame somewhere in the junkpile.

Only the DLX fordor sedan have flip-out (pivoting) rear side windows; the STD or "Ford V8" models are fixed. The 38 DLX fordor we have is equipped with chrome pivot window surrounds; the 39 DLX fordor we have is equipped with black pivot window surrounds. Both are/were original paint cars never having been messed with. I would expect 40 is similar but can't verify for sure. There are quite a few running changes from 38 DLX to 40 sedan bodies; they all look similar in pictures but once you get them torn apart it becomes pretty obvious. Same holds true if you need a part; one finds plenty of wrong ones!
