The transmission I was referring to is the TOD 2 wheel drive version of this transmission, not the T-85. And it is not the SROD overdrive trans. The trans has a top mounted shifter like the Jeep, but it is all Ford.

The transmission I think you are looking for is called a RTS four speed it is an aluminum cased full synchro top shifter four speed. the fourth gear is an overdrive. You can see one behind a flathead in my forum post titled A V8 Roadster. the adapter came from wilcap. This trans was used in ford pickups from 83 to 87 or about. If you google ford rts transmission there is more info on rebuilding kits , year applications etc.

Bob, yes, using the the open drive can be some a little easier (not that much machine work). The only problem area would be either parrell or transverse spring and mounting holding rods to the crossmember. There's probably quite a few guys on this sight that have done it, I know Hot Rod Works in Idaho has a kit.

Have fun
Chuck

I use a 3-speed with OD truck trans in 48 car works really nice I love it! Made the car very nice to drive,syncro's,3:00 1st gear 28% OD.looks original underneath as the torque tube is still used. Got it as a kit from Dave at modelaonly.com as a kit Laurie

I have the same 3 speed OD trans with Jeep shifter bolted to SBC in my 40. I am running a Dana rearend with 3:31 gears and don't really get much out of the OD on CA freeways. Probably will go with a 4 speed behind a flatty this next build.
