Default borg warner type overdrive and floor clearancee

Does the Borg Warner type overdrive units from the 1950s and 60s that are being fitted to our Flatties drive shafts by the gentleman out in Ohio really clear the floor in a 1935 Sedan, Phaeton or Roadster or will the floor have to be cut and boxed? The Mitchell is a nice unit but will not fit these models without modifying the floor.
