Motor's Auto Repair Manual is a good resource, and copies appear on eBay all the time.

Most all the peddlers carry reprints of Ford Service Bulletins and the Canadian Service manual. Both are excellent guides.

Ford made an operator's or owner's manual for every model they manufactured in that time frame. If you can find one of these for a 39 Standard model, it will give you most of the model specific information on maintenance, lubrication, and operation of that model along with some good pictures, drawings, and diagrams. Ford maintenance manuals were not as model specific as the operator's manuals were but will give an overall instruction for maintenace and overhaul of the Ford models in the range of years it was made to cover.

Post Script: The term Reference Manual was used from 36 thru 42. You would be looking for "Ford Passenger and Commercial Reference Book 1939" to cover the standard models for 1939. The Deluxe had its own manual that year.

The Early Ford V-8 Club has a restoration guide for the 38-39 vehicles. It contains a lot of great information. It covers all aspects of these cars. You can buy it by going to; www.earlyfordv8.org.

Thank you for all of the resources! I will definatly check out that early ford V8 site. It's hard to find sites with information on these vehicles.
