Ford V8 timing fixture by Churchill
A barner pm'd me and asked if I could take some pics of the Churchill timing fixture. Having taken them, I thought I'd put a post together so anyone interested can see them too.
Here's the jig without the top plate in place to show the general arrangement. The top plate can be fitted either way up, one way for helmet and Lucas style and the other way up, which compensates for the different offset of the crab style. This way up for helmet: And like this for crab: The two dowels are different diameters so you can't fit the plate 180 degrees out. Here is a crab in situ: And a helmet type: (you'd take the side covers off to use the fixture) The knob on the right is used to move the driving dog up and down. The smaller knob on the left is used to set the disc at the firing point. The small bulb was the original method of timing, used in conjunction with a bicycle lamp type battery housed underneath the unit. I rigged it up with a power supply and a buzzer. Next time I use it to actually set up a distributor I will make a little video. Hope the pics are useful. Mart. Last edited by Mart; 02-01-2016 at 05:37 PM. |

Beautifully built. Industrial art combined with solid functionality. Thanks, Mart, for posting great pics.
