I sent my dist. to Bubba and when I removed the bolts I noticed there were to different lengths? I looked in the green bible and believe if I found the right info, it said 5/16 18 x 0.90 can anyone translate the 0.90 for me, is it saying that the bolts should be around 7/8" long? I thinking the 18 is the thread count and type.

5/16 is the diameter, 18 threads per inch, and .90 long. 7/8 is .875 but I think that is close enough. Dale

Look again these are special bolts with shoulders to locate the distributor. G.M.

PeeWee In 1935 a new distributor mounting bolt was interduced, part # 41-12148. The diameter of the old bolt was .312. The new bolt has a short shoulder with a diameter of .316 to .320. Any prior earlier distributors when removed should be drilled out to .323 or a "P" drill and the bolts replaced. The was to gain better accuracy in timing according to the service bulletin. I believe the bolt length is 7/8". I had a distributor off a 39 a month ago that I bought a few years ago but never ran good. This is a 38,000 mile convertable that was restored and is almost perfect and I never drove it but it ran a little rough. I pulled the distributor and had Skip clean it and run it on his Ford~Heyer strobe machine and also rebuild the coil. It had generic 5/16" bolts so I replaced them with the proper shoulder bolts and installed the distributor. A friend of mine that helps me couldn't believe the differance and how good it starts and runs. G.M.
