Default 1932 Rear drum/hub

I thought I was doing the right thing torquing up my rear hubs, then had to re-adjust the brakes because the shoes were binding, making a noise.

It makes no dfference how much I adjust off the brakes, the binding remains. So I pulled the hub/drum off, and there is a witness mark showing it is the edge of the shoe touching the face of the drum.

So am I right in thinking the taper is worn, and the drum is going on too far?

What can I do about this?? I wont find good NOS '32 drums here in the UK, so I thought maybe have the axle shaft tapers built up (welding/hard chrome?) then ground back. to put the drum back out a bit??

Please let me know what other solutions there are..

Thanks, Tom.

Not suggesting any of this but here's a few CRUDE fixes . Shim stock on the axle taper [ I've actually seen this before ] , turning the drum to remove the offending lip or slightly narrowing the shoe . I would probably vote against any form of welding on the axle end as it may become brittle . Yes I live on a farm and it shows occasionally !!!!!

If the mark is on the top edge of the shoe then the shoe is flopping out .Put the long spring on from the back ,Also the rollers on the bottom /rear of the shoe help Aline them if one roller is smaller like a repoped one then swap them over .The adjuster fork at the other end can be closed/squeezed up to add additional alignment .It pays to road test before any final torquing is done on the hub nuts .
