'32 Grille Rusting :(
Please advise what factory finish was, and how to remove the grille and apply correct/best modern available finish.
thanks, Tom. |

Originally it was baked enamel. I use single stage urethane to paint them.

Tom, you don't want to bother with that rusty old thing. I have a nice stainless "pre enjoyed" unit I'll do you a straight swap for.

Ha! Hey Mart how would you do a "once and for all" good job on this grille?

Re: '32 Grille Rusting :(
I've repaired and insert like yours by taping off the stainless and bead blasting the center. Then I polished the stainless and had a local powder paint shop tape off the stainless and coat the bars with a color very close to the original grey.

Re: '32 Grille Rusting :(
Were they all originally supposed to be grey? When I stripped mine back in the 70s the paint that was applied first on it appeared to be a cream color so I thought that was what color they were.

Re: '32 Grille Rusting :(
Thanks for the advice. I have asked my bead blaster guy and he reckons he can do it without separating the vertical pieces. Still haven't decided on how to finish the bare steel.
