Occasionally I see threads regarding balancing tires. I'm running the inexpensive 21 inch Lucas tires, and I see absolutely no reason for balancing them. They roll true, and without any hint of being out of balance at any speed. Am i just lucky?

I just asked the same question. 60 years of owning these cars, never knowingly have had a balance problem.

Ditto. Never had a 21" tire balanced or had any reason to.

My Tudor had Firestone tyres on it when I got it. At 45-50 mph, the front started to shake and by 55, it was bouncing all over the place dangerously. I'm not a real fan of firestones but after I balanced them, they have been OK. To balance them (it took a lot of lead!), I made a stand with a front hub mounted on it and set the berings to run free. I added weight to the top of the wheel once it had settled (heavy spot tot he bottom). Once it was done, they run smooth at 65.
I have worn out a set of lucas tyres and didn't have to balance them. I didn't like them much - too soft. The balance of the old Insa tyres was OK too.
Now that I have the balancing stand, I balance all of my wheels when I fit the tyre.
Wow, it's only as I type this I start to realise how many sets of tyres I have worn out!
