Default Is this a 12v to 6v transformer?

What is this? This model a is a 12 volt setup and this gadget looks like it might be a transformer to convert 12 volt to 6 volt for the horn and possibly the headlights. It is taped to the water return tube. Does that make sense?

NO. Looks like a high current resistor. Looks like it goes to the horn. You probably have a 12V system and this resistor is used to step the voltage down to 6Volts for the horn.

Transformers do not work on direct current - only on an alternating or fluctuating current.

It's a wire wound resistor.

Ifn it's only used to feed the horn, then it likely doesn't see much use and would probably get more heat from the pipe than it would generate on it's own.
