Wonder how fast a cat equipped with a flathead would go.

No Chris, you nailed it right the first time.
He said "They now live at a local lake near me"
Why would anybody go to all that work then set the cats free at a local, nearby spot? It doesn't matter how sick this guy is, I'm sure he's aware that a living cat will find it's way home from a nearby dropoff.
Drowning people's pets (even a yappy chihuahua) is over the line, uncivilized, indicative of a bullying nature and possible other deep-rooted dissorders.

I guess it's a matter of where you draw the line when protecting your property and possessions but at the end of the day wouldn't owning a cat address all the rodent problems mentioned in this thread?

Bill,

For rural areas, as a last resort, maybe for squirrel problems, place a short ad in a Hunting Magazine such as;

"Free -- Annual, Early Saturday Morning Squirrel Hunt -- with or without squirrel dogs -- No Limit -- Free hunting guide available to point out Squirrels -- hurry while fall season is open -- limited space available -- call: (xxx) xxx-xxxx."

On the farm I use mothballs and a lot of them to keep the rats and squirrels out of things. Smells horrible but it keeps them out.

Ok the cat problem I had was the cats were eating my dogs food and killing my wifes birds .
Then they started fighting my old dogs . Cut my girls nose and a trip to the vet .

I took the cats to a nice park on a lake where they can fish .

I released them unharmed .

If I had taken them to a shelter they would just kill them .

This idea has merit.

Thanks for clarifying this. Maybe the cage and relocation experience was enough to teach these cats. Many years ago my friend moved out of town and up the highway 8 or 10 miles away. The family cat(rocky)couldn't be found on the final moving day so they eventually got in the truck and left.
Several weeks later a rather thin and tattered cat showed up on their new doorstep...it was rocky AND that was way before GPS!
Sorry but it's a sensitive subject as our cat was trapped by my neighbour in a cage, but we found out and released him before it was dumped in the ocean. He was very lucky...and I don't mean the cat.
Have a great day.

GOD! Craig,
What a HORRIBLE man! Bet he had a mean HORRIBLE dog too!
Chief always said that you can tell a lot about a MAN by studying his DOG! Ole' Bill turned it around, You can tell a lot about a DOG by studying his MAN! Like, can you trust him? Or will he bite the crap out of you when you ain't lookin'??
Buster T. & I have an agreement, he doesn't yell at me & I don't yell at him. If you want a dog to be a "machine," teach him one word commands. If you want him to be a Model A expert/security dog/friend/confidante/buddy/pal/bed buddy/etc, just talk to him in looooong paragraphs!!
I hope you've gotten over that "neighbor" thing, God, that'd be hard to forget, my friend. Bill W.
(A single Dr. friend hasn't had an alarm clock for years, his 2 cats stand on his chest, & stares in his face to wake him at 4:00 A.M, never more than 5 minutes off! On weekends, he lifts the covers, they go under & sleep in with him!! SMART CATS!) Bill W.

Cats are good for getting rid of rats, squirrels and snakes. I hope the cat doesn't decide to sharpen his claws in the nice upholstery.

The squirrel saga.

Ok bought one of them thar fancy electronic systems to deter squirrels, and a whole array of living creatures prone to dining on my wiring harness's (includes Bears, Deer, bugs, etc. Just pick the problem animal, bird. and set it up. I have not seen a squirrel in my yard nor the neighbors yard.

Had several people wonder what the h.... is that. Explained my problem and noticed the hoods up on a number of vehicles..

Good show William!

Tell neighbors if they want to get rid of squirrels, get a Model A.

Put some dry Portland cement in a pan with some carrot sticks stuck in the cement. Critters will eat a carrot and injest some cement, go outside for water. Guess what? One less varmit.

Feed the squirrels some corn, they like corn more than wire . Works for me .
