Re: A good start today.........
phase one is a warranty , conversion to electronic Mallory YC for a flathead ....some confusion as the customers car is 6 volt positive ground. In my thinking the pertronix 6 volt isnt a good option here especially with solid wires etc. Customer returned the unit , i removed the module and installed points , tested on tester etc. Out the door it goes ..........
next , lets go to lunch , how about some Mexican????? |

Just had to freshen this one up with new points, condensor , cap rotor and coillll And while i was getting that project done Jake and Amber jammed on the storage cabs that needed some organizing.....what a day ??? |

Aluminum coil cover with special heat sink for control module ( a couple options).....wire set included as well. If ya want the killer spark this is it !!! More news as i wire this one up, i have enough parts to make up a few ......as the used to say news at 11........ Our chev conversion is $350 this one would be $450 complete ......... |

OK now its monday and my mission is to get all these past orders caught up , so read and watch as we clean up the backlog. I only work on Mon-Wed-Friday Sun Mondays . Have treatments the other days....
This helmet was complete with side caps, coil and condensor ..Uses the small point set , condensor is .25 checks good , coil has great output on tster and its a model 68 with 100-11 degrees of advance . Cleaned up really nice...... How about that a 5000 rpm helmet ??????????? Hope you appreciate the detail in this process.... |

Thanks for the update. Do take care of yourself. Your health is paramount. Of course, many of us find work therapeutic, so I get that. We are not machines, however, and machines need maintenance, too.
Good luck! |

Re: A good start today.........
Got in a little bit this morning, sometimes its better to just pull the plug rather than fight it . Never have enjoyed a fight when something dont work.
This crab was built and driven two years ago for a customer and just quit running. We warranty all our builds for life so he sent it back . He would pay $25 for the fresh up to cover the shipping. Put it on the tester and it wont fire a ignition coil !!!! Worked on the contacts , adjusted , cleaned etc . Still wont , taking the easy route ( will post the fix when completed) will trash the center contact plate and points , replace with new and retest......... |

Glad you are taking care of the medical and the shop. I know it's what keeps ya going. Just remember on those "not so perky" days that there are many thinking about and praying that you are strengthened and enriched through this adventure. You are both appreciated and loved by the many folks that you continue to bless... Chap

Re: A good start today.........
Another good day at Bubbas , got in a few hours this morning. Nice weather in shop, check out the shipping box. This is what ya do when you ship from Alaska ....
Its another model 68 Helmet with individual contacts (napa CS47 )May be my favorite Helmet unit. Check out a couple details . We lube the contact fiber with marvel ( i think it helps ) and use high temp grease (mobil 1) on the back side of cam contact...(lube will stay there and get used when wear happens). I get them in quite a bit and the lube has dryed out or no lube at all, pivot and rubbing block are smoked .... Will perform all tests as example in above post ... It will be another good one... Note : Terry ( my part time guy) loves making stuff look and work good. This is what i get from Terry. So i really have it made just sit down and put it together .. This is a pic of his office ..... |

Re: A good start today.........
Jim,
If you posted the photos they didn't come through on my end but not to worry. Just the fact that you are doing well and making good on back orders and warranty work is good enough for me. The mechanical advance Chevy conversion you built for me some time ago is still going strong. Just don't over do it from one of your many fans. Tim

Re: A good start today.........
Jim, I have long enjoyed reading your posts and am glad to hear you are doing better. I am quite fortunate to get to work from time to time with my father and my son on my '34. No grandkids yet though! My son is in Mercedes tech school in Atlanta and is doing his second apprenticeship at the dealership in Athens, GA. I have enjoyed watching him learn and being able to work on the point based systems as well as all of the OBDII stuff.
Do you have any plans to take on new work? I have some I would love to send your way if and when you are ready. Ron |

Re: A good start today.........
Feeling a little "crabie" again today........behind as usual so i just pulled 5-6 plates from the stack and started installing CS47 sets from napa. I think one of the better things i have learned about the fiber rubbing block pointsi is they will change adjustment after a few short miles . My fix for that issue ( and i think it fixes the problem) is t use a ton of lube ( mobil one wheel bearing grease) to the backside of the rubbing block. A old guy ( older than me) showed me that and i have used it on every tune up for many years. Makes sense , then i soak every rubbing block hole in marvel oil for some time as well.........

Maybe 1 our of 50 need a bushing , i fit the shafts to the bushing and check the fit . I do see a few helmets with the shaft damaged from time to time , i just throw them in the trash if the shaft is hurt as well. Putting in new bushings is a pain and takes some serious time , i have the tooling etc and stock a few bushings but after pressing in a new bushing it needs to be fitted ( reamed) as the bushings tighten up . If i was just doing maybe one or two i guess i would take the time to do some but they are seldom needed as theres not much side loads on the shaft |

Re: A good start today.........
Crab attack again, they have crawled on my desk ....machine break in for a few minutes at 5000 plus = 11 degrees advance / 36 degrees of dwell, plenty of lube on point cam and point set . May catch up on the crab back orders this week ........
Moved the V8 60 to the lobby today thats where it will live . I plan on tsting the Early ford distributors with a Pico lab scope and will write a booklet regarding these evasive ignition systems using the 60 as a test bench. Look for this coming soon....... Ever seen a scope pattern of the early ford coils etc???? |

Jim on these I use a 7/16-14 tap and literally thread the bushing and run the tap against the housing and it lifts it right out. Usually a old one Is removed and a new one in in less than 60 seconds. This is not a safe method on the v-12’s however as the housing is cast much thinner |

Re: A good start today.........
Hope Jim is ok with it, I am posting his update here on the thread for anyone that has difficulty finding it on his site.
September 29 , 2019 update ..... Treatment # 52 is in the books. Making adjustments to my take off (fluids removed) each treatment. They had hit bottom finally and was wearing me out for the entire day. A readjustment made it better and raised my dry weight number a couple Ks . Tapered the end of treatment and the last two have been great. Felt so good after treatment yesterday , I took the wife to dinner . Stay tuned we may get this thing adjusted some day !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
