Model A story with a happy ending

I have been working on my car for the last two months trying to get it to run properly. First it was the gas tank, then the carburator , then the distributor, and last but not least got it timed properly. Left out the valve job to unstick two exhaust valves.

Finally got it running like a champ, almost. Took it for a small run to further convince myself it was running like I had dreamed. It ran great. Decided to park it in the driveway and give it a bath,then pulled it forward in the garage for the night. I was in Model A heaven.

Got up the next morning to start the car to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Low and behold it would crank but no combustion what so ever. I checked everything. I even pulled the distributor and rechecked all my work. Everything looked perfect.
Then I tried the horn and lights and nothing. I got out my Les Andrews book and was looking for any mention of a fuse. Somewhere I had read that a fuse was recommended to be added on top of the starter. I found it and it looked perfect. I jumped the fuse with the pliers in my hand and that was it. I had lights and horn. Replaced the fuse and low and behold all is good again. Car is purring like a kitten.

Thanks too all that have helped me with my car thru posts on this page. They all proved to be invaluable. Prior to this car I had never rebuilt a carb,a distributor ,or done a valve job. Its a good feeling to have it running and have done all the work myself. Wish it would stop raining now.

I'd recommend carrying a couple spare fuses.

I'd recommend finding out what blew the fuse.

Giving it a bath might have contributed. Water can get in where it shouldn't be.

I would rather have the car running.

It seems like the last thing you did was park it in your garage to find it had blown the fuse. Did you apply the brakes extra hard? If the fuse blows again a possible look see would be the brake switch. They have a tendency to short.

Good point. My switch did just what you mentioned. Also I had a fuse blow when my generator shorted out. Just a few ideas because it is important to find the cause of the blow.
