Default Horn troubleshooting

My horn quit working after I did the 1,000 mile service. I put a couple of drops of oil on the felt pads and "jiggled" the bale on the switch at the bottom of the steering column to make sure it was securely engaged.
The horn is 6 months old so didn't think the problem was with the horn itself. I "bench tested" it by connecting the horn contacts to positive and negative and the horn works fine.
Is there a method to determining if the problem is in the switch at the bottom of the steering column or at the horn button at the steering wheel? Before I did the service work the horn had been working fine.

I had and still kind of have a horn problem and what I did for troubleshooting was take the light switch apart and touch the center contact on the wire disc to the horn rod end while someone is pressing the button. If it sounds, then that tells you it is not in the wiring from the horn and is likely in the light switch.

The horn button parts and the wire inside the light switch rod can develop problems over time. Connection of wires to the light switch can also develop problems due to the swampy location of the switch. A person can go to the switch and check the connection to the horn by grounding the contact or terminal for it on the switch contact plate. The tip of the horn rod wire may have deteriorated where it makes contact to the light switch contact plate.

Schoenen Nachmittag!
I solved this recurring problem and installed a load work relay invisibly near the horn. This makes that the horn goes very powerful even with bad contacts.

If you still have problems after trying the above suggestions, you will have to remove the horn rod and clean the contact under the black button.

Will it work with the horn cover off, if so, check the length of the screw that holds the cover on. If too long it will short out the brush holder.

When I touched the tip of the horn rod to the center contact on the switch plate and hit the horn button the horn worked. I used emory cloth on both the tip and contact then put it back together and the horn works. Thanks for the help!
