By the sounds of it, must be a little like riding in a USAF 1950's flying box car. Flew in one of those (wearing a parachute) from PA to Alabama to boot camp in San Antonio TX in 1961. Between the engines and rattling sheet metal I lost my hearing for a week.

That would make a nice addition to any collection, if only I could afford one.

75 bucks is what a dinner and a movie cost here. What a great experience!

Fourth time for me (ticket #1 on the first flight at Marathon last Thursday), including twice on Island Airlines (Port Clinton to Put-in-Bay, Ohio). What a treat!

I've flown in a B-17 and a B-24. I would really like to go up in one of these and a B-25 while I still can.

My Trimotor ride was free! It occurred probably in the 1970's when a major airline, maybe American Airlines, restored a Trimotor and visited airports all around USA for publicity. They come to the small town airport in Provincetown MA and I drove there in my Model A Mail Truck. The publicity crew spotted the Mail Truck and had me back it up to the Trimotor for publicity photos. It got me a ride in the last 15 or 20 minute trip of the day. It was the second airplane ride of my life at that time, and a very positive experience. My first airplane ride was sitting on the floor of an empty military C-47 cargo plane from Paris to Leige, side cargo door wide open, no parachute, very cold January day in 1945. The Trimotor ride was an improvement!

EAA does operate two different Tri-Motors.

Below, this 5-AT used to be the Evergreen airplane. It's owned by the Liberty Aviation Museum in Ohio, and operated by EAA under a lease agreement. COOL '37 Ford!

Below is the 4-AT that EAA has operated since 1985.

Took a ride in the Trimotor 2 years ago in San Carlos, and the B17 last year out at the former Mather AFB in Sacramento-both wonderful experiences, I think it's fantastic that the EAA keeps these flying. Watching them fire up the 4 engines of the B17 in sequence was worth the price alone!

As an aside to this post last night on the Velocity Channel "The Guild Restorations" showcased a two minute feature on the Trimotor at an Oshkosh airplane event. Amazing the universal interest in this airplane goes on! Haven't checked the Trimotor schedule but it would be a great addition to the "Barners Bash" event this weekend in the Tampa area... Bill

5-AT-B is owned by the Liberty Aircraft Museum, Port Clinton Ohio (fitting as that was the home of Island Airlines, the last company to use Tri-motor Fords in regularly scheduled service in the U.S.) and on long term lease to the EAA. The complete history of both planes is on the EAA.org website.

So very COOL. How many cylinders on those radial's. I live near the Lakehurst Joint Military base in the summer ( used to be an Army Air Core base then Air Force base, it's where the Hindenberg blew up ). I believe you can take ride on a B24 during the Memorial day week end. Always wanted to do it. We see great views of all the WW2 vintage Bombers and fighters doing fly overs over that week end.
