Default recore or replace radiator

This site is a great wealth of information and entertainment. My '29 Tudor would boil on hot days here in Ga (90 degrees+) but would run ok otherwise, if I pulled up hills or drove at 50 it would boil then also. Using the site for info I tried the simple green, white vineger treatment to no avail. Pulled it out ( stock original) and reputable rad shop said its leaking and they will not repare it. Soooo, should I send it to Bergs for a recore or buy one outright. Thanx in advance for the feedback, help or ridicule.

Good 29 tanks are getting pretty rare. That's why Berg's is having his own tanks manufactured. If your tanks are good then I would recore it. I don't know if I would stop at one shop's opinion.

I had my radiator out for other reasons, and decided that as long as it was out ---

I had a local radiator shop look it over, check flow rate, etc, etc. Bottom line is that they did find a few minor leaks and repaired them, cleaned everything out and painted it real purty. The paint job was worth what it cost! And like I said, it was out anyway.

Berg put one of his round tube cores in my 29. They're not seamed tubes but it looks pretty good and works well.

I'm surprized to hear that. I bought my Berg's 29 core about 8 years ago and I'm sure it has seamed tubes. I'll have to dig it out and take another look.

For what its worth, I picked up my rad from the shop today. The guy said they checked the flow and it was good and that it had leaks in the corners of the tanks at the core when they pumped it up to 5psi. Now I didnt see any leaks when I drove or parked so they might have been so slight the water just steamed away. One jar of Barrs Leaks and a hot 25 mile drive and it seams ok. We shall see Thanx for the advice

I bought my round tube back in the late 70s. Maybe berg"s newer round tubes have seams.

Just drove the A 65 miles round trip 45-50 mph no problemo. This machine is more fun than the 52 M-37I had in the 70s.
