Default How do I time my Model B engine ?

I have a Model B engine with the B distributor (mechanical advance ) and a stock Model A timing gear cover with the round boss (P/N A-6019-B )

But the timing gear has no indent hole that is used to feel Top Dead Center (TDC)
for the engine. I read an article in "How to Restore Your Model A" Volume 6, page 63, that the B timing indent hole is 19 degrees before TDC.

So if I drill a hole in the timing gear at 19 degrees before TDC, , what are the next steps ? Is 19 degrees before TDC when the points should open to fire the spark plug on #1 cylinder ?

Since you should take it off to drill it why not just replace it with a Model B timing cover?

Phil another way is drill your indent inline with the key way on you lower gear on the crankshaft, very easy to do with the timing covver removed Gotd. B by the Bay
