I would like to add, when entering or exiting our '31 CCPU, I do not put my feet on my glossy painted running boards. I step over them to keep them scratch free. That may change the technique for some in getting in and out of the cab.

Put your left foot in
Your left foot out
Your left foot in
And shake it all about
You do the hokey pokey
And turn yourself around
Now put your right foot in
Your right foot out
Right foot in
Then you shake it all about
And then you do the hokey pokey
Turn yourself around
That's what it's all about
You put your head in
You put your head out
Put your head in
And bang it all about
Do the hokey pokey
And turn yourself around
That's what it's all about

As kjbnut stated: don't be pulling and prying on the steering wheel. Causes too much stress on the gas tank. Jeff

The real trick is to teach your wife to wait until you have gone through all of your jyrations BEFORE they try to enter! Inevitable mid-seat bumping/colliding will occur. BTW if you fellas figure this one out, let me know!

I use SSSSSSSSteamer's method, and I'm 6'2", but 190 lbs. Feet fitting into the cab seem to be my biggest challenge, but if I put on another 10 pounds, the butt and waistline would add to the difficulty. I'm sure my 5'3" grandfather would have fit perfectly.

I used to be addicted to the hokey pokey.
Then I turned myself around.
Now I'm only addicted to old automobiles.

I'm 6'1 and 270lbs when I get in my 28 roadster pickup (with the roof) I stand on the running board bend my leg as if I was going to cross it in a chari with right calf over left thigh and just slip in knee frist I'm in and out As quick as any other vehicle without roof I just step in standing up and sit down ( much easier no ducking lol) 4 years of it as my only car did me well of mastering the contoursonist tecnique. Granted my drivers side running Baird is sagged but it's the price you pay

Enter rumble seat
Left foot bumper
Right foot fender
Left foot seat
Right foot slide to floor followed by left foot slide to floor.

Exit in opposite manner.
Stand on seat face the front of car.
Right foot fender
Left foot bumper
Right foot ground followed by left foot.
Stand straight up brush yourself off.
Say "THANK YOU" to nice Model A guy. Jeff

After a long stay in the hospital, finally struggled into Minerva, laying on my Right side across the seat. Trying to sit up, ended up in front of the seat, on my Right side, in the floor, trapped by the gearshift ! Slithered out feet first like a SNAKE & sat DEJECTED on the running board. With my long arms I did all the stuff & that BITCH wouldn't start!
At 2:00 in the morning, sat up in bed & said, "OH SHIT, FORGOT TO TURN ON THE GAS" & WENT BACK TO SLEEP!

Lowell,

If you're over seventy, you can't get in without help, much less get out. My wife and i don't get in the rumble seat of our 29 Roadster. I've been in maybe once or twice and that was enough.

You put your right foot on the step on the right fender, hold on to the rumble lid and the fender, turn and put the left foot on the step on the bumper, then step down to the street. Most people have someone give them a hand to get out.

We leave that to the grandchildren. Our daughters and their husbands all go to the gym regularly so they have no problems getting in and out by themselves.

You can watch me getting in and out of mine in a vid my son and I posted on you tube in '13. I am a little over 5'10" and 200#. Go to you tube Cabin Fever of a 1930 Model A Ford. It starts with shoveling snow. You don't need to watch the whole thing, just getting in at first and getting out at last. Just after the vid was shot, I pulled the engine and line bored it for inserts, counterweighted crank, pressure to the mains, balancing, porting...etc. as the camcorder picked up the center main noise when cruising at 45 and I commented that I thought it was a transmission noise. That was the original engine with a light overhaul and the bearings taken up, but the babbit in the center cap was coming apart.

Go figure.
My Dad, also born 1920 was 6' for a long time. Now at 97, he's shrunk to about 5'9.
Born 1951, I am 6'1
My two boys, early "80's, are both around 6'1
Grandson is 4'1, but he's only 6
