Late 31 stop light switch replacement
I am rather a newby to Model As and this forum. It appears that my stop light switch has failed. This is the type that mounts to the crossmember behind the transmission. I've ordered up a new one, but am unsure how it attaches to the brake pedal rod. Do I need to remove the pedal clevis and pull the entire rod or does the switch thread onto the rod in place? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement
The switch just bolts to the frame cross member. Most of the replacement switches
are not very good. The one in the link has the bushing like the original and is of good quality. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NORS-1929-3...VZ29Tm&vxp=mtr Bob Last edited by Bob C; 01-20-2019 at 06:29 PM. |

Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement
There is a hole in the cross member for the switch to fit in so the shoe on the rear of the brake pedal rod can activate the switch.

Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement
The last I checked there was a good switch available from A&L. The pictures show the switch from A&L, note the brass bushings. If not, try Bratton's. They will probably have two types, get the expensive one. Most of the reproduction switches are junk. The switch mounts to the back side of the cross member with two screws. The rod from the brake pedal has a mushroom on the end that pushes against the small shaft that sticks out from the switch.
You can test your switch by getting under the and first watching what is happening. If that check is good run a jumper wire across the two terminals and see if the tail lights come on. If you have something different please post pictures of what you have. Charlie Stephens |

The switch from A&L is really good, made to last, and self lubricated....it won’t stick.
