Default old racing flatty

Thought you "Barners" might be interested in this old race car. The Waimate 50 is an "iconic" Kiwi race event.

That makes me think of the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian", about Kiwi motorcyclist whose name was Burt Munro.

Great stuff Geoff , that made me watch a bunch of other vids from Ruapuna bringing back many memories.
I feel sure you know my great friends Russ Haines & Rod McElrea.
Cheers

There is also a very good book just recently written with plenty of good photos.
Written on the West Coast Greymouth, Back in The Day by Moe Bowes. released July 2017.
Features many sections of cars drivers of the area as well as trucks and some good info on speedways. Well recommend this book for ex NZers and locals who will strongly identify with all its contents. Style is written in a very casual way. hard to put down until finished. Easy to remember similar incidents which occurred personally "back in thhe day".

Hi Tony.Yes I know both the blokes you mention.Don't know Rod that well but he gave me a photo of him and his mates running our car at the Ashley forest shingle hillclimb years ago.Said they pooled their beer money for fuel. I know Russ quite well as we both run in the same vintage track class except that I never see much of him when we are racing as he is always in the top couple of cars and I am well back.A nice bloke, very good driver and gets a huge amount of power out of a 6 cyl Holden motor.
Cheers, Geoff
