My pops is building an 28 av8 on deuce rails, he's running a 28 shell and radiator. the motor is a 41 59 a with new wide belt pullys that are close to the block. He bought an electronic distributer with the crab style cap. The problem is when we place the fan carrier where it needs to be the belt runs into the distributer. Does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem, maybe even a list of parts to make it all work.

Here is my 8BA as it went together, crab distributor, with an earlier cam and a two bolt cover. Zeke

Gauge in head is temperature as I was running prior to having dash gauges.

I did not think a 59a would have any problems fitting. I know the 8ba has problems.

Get the Bishop Tardel book. I have never seen a 59a not fit. Unless the mounts are to far forward.

How could the belt get anywhere near the distributer? Are you running two belts on two separate crank pulleys?

The new electronic crab distributor is thicker than the old crab one. I've heard about this before. Can't recall the solution.

We are going to have to run two belts. does anyone know if they make double groove h20 pump pully?

Would switching to a standard crab type distributor give enough clearance? I believe you can get a pertronics conversion for them these days.

Might be a retrograde step, as you already have the electronic distributor, but it may be the neatest solution.

I believe that some truck pumps had double pulleys but the are in demand by the blower guys so they can be pricey if I remember correctly but then again I might be suffering from CRS.

Below is a picture of an early V8 (similar to yours dimensionally, except for the water pumps). THIS one is in a Model A frame. He is running the FRONT distributor. He had to slightly trim his fan blade tips to clear hoses.

The fan and generator are 1939 Ford STANDARD. DeLuxe Fords in '39 mounted the fan low, on the crankshaft. This may help you visualize what you MIGHT do. DD

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear,but. Change the distributor to a stock 42 11A. It's the best distributor on the market today for your engine. Have it converted to electronic if you feel that is necessary. Your aftermarket distributor had no Vacuum component in the advance curve. Cheaper to make. Just have one rebuilt to stock specs and make sure you adj the vacuum retard properly.
