Default No More Clutch Chatter On My F1!!

I saved my 1000th post for this. I have conquered the clutch chatter on my `51 F1! All it took was a rebuilt American made pressure Plate, a rebuilt American made clutch, an American made throw out bearing and a new rear mount, not sure where it was made, but guys it is sweet. I was embarrassed at a car show last fall while trying to back into a parking spot on a slight incline. It isn't a bad looking truck but the chatter took some icing off the cake as people were looking at the truck as I backed up.

While I had the transmission out I cleaned it up and painted it and replaced all of the seals from Mac Van Pelt. I rebuilt the shifting levers with parts also from Mac Van Pelt. It all turned out very well, I am pleased...

Happy for you.

Richard,
Good eye, they are threaded but the other end makes a 90° turn and connects to the transmission, They can't possibly turn without disconnecting the other end.

Ken,
I bought the clutch at Fort Wayne Clutch. They did not have a pressure plate in stock. I found the pressure plate at Early Ford V-8 Sales in South Carolina. I found the throw out bearing at NAPA. I bought the rear mount and pilot bearing at Mac's.

The Chinese parts came from Mac's $148 deal. I used these parts when I had the engine out last year thinking it was a good move. Wrong! The new throw out bearing squealed right out of the box from day one and it was installed correctly. I didn't know what part(s) was causing the chatter, but it is too difficult pulling the transmission with just me with my wife using an engine hoist to want to do it more than once, so I replaced them all.

I can see a growing shortage of original Ford clutch and pressure plate cores. Fort Wayne Clutch offered to rebuild my new Chinese parts but I had had all I wanted of these parts..

I called Mac's tech guy but he offered no help. It is not only the cost of these parts and shipping, it is the work involved in replacing something that you thought you had taken care of previously that hurts....

Thanks for steering me away from the Chinese Parts, I think I'll try to get my Clutch & Pressure Plate rebuilt (somewhere)
