I purchased a chassis awhile back for parts. Rigged a fuel tank and scrap metal support for the essentials, bolted an old boat seat on a piece of plywood and fired her up. After driving around the neighborhood every thing seamed great. Really peppy without a body. Now I'm in the process of evaluating. So far the good parts are a new 12volt alternator, electronic ignition, lightened flywheel, counterbalanced crankshaft, straight frame, four original shocks(don't know if they are good), front axel from kingpins to two tooth steering box tight. Radiator doesn't leak and it never overheated while I was driving her.
The engine would be awesome except I chipped at a tiny bit of rust under the water pump and eventually dug out a chunk of JB weld

. I haven't given up on it yet. The cylinders still have horizontal hone marks and the Babbitt is new but questionably finished. No grooves on center and front caps, giant 'x' pattern on rear main with extra grove cut down the middle into the thrust surface on dip tube side.
Now for my question, there wasn't a pilot bearing installed. I'm wondering if somethings not right with the cut down flywheel and the pilot bearing was left out on purpose. I measured the hole at 1.572" this morning. Does anyone know the dimensions of a stock bearing? I can't find it anywhere yet on the WWW.

The correct hole dimension is 1.575 inches so you are OK. The bearing may be listed as 40mm OD / 17mm ID, since most are made outside the US these days.

Well that was easy!! I had two 6203's in my pool(another high maintenance item) parts cabinet.

I just measured a pilot bearing, Federal Mogul BCA # 203-FF

I.D. = .6692
O.D.= 1.5768
W = .4724

Or....17 X 40 X 12 MM
