Is there any way I can mic. the rear main cap journal on the crankshaft with the engine in the car.Some one sold me a engine with the wrong size cap and it broke. I want to have another one made. If I can find out the size of the journal. . Richard

There were at one time special mics for this but I have no idea where you would find one? If you know someone with a line-bore machine the mics used on it may do the job?

Yo, Bro Richard,
Just "thinking", you know those thin end mics that the automotive machinests use, like they roll the main insert out & it'll go up in the void to get a reading. "MAYBE" if you loosened the center & front main, a little, "MAYBE" you could pry down on the rear of the crank enough to get a reading? The mic WON'T go up inside it, but at least it would reach the WIDEST part of the journal. YES, I know the pilot shaft is "fighting" you, BUT I think it will pry down a "little"--It won't take much to get a reading! A lot easier than pulling the motor. (NO, I've NOT done this, BUT you might think about trying it.)
