Speed Week @ Bonneville 2012, Who's Going?

I AM!!.....Got a call from a friend in Baltimore last Friday night wanting to know if I would be interested in going to the Bonneville Salt Flats this year as part of a trip he is putting together. He knows I have been TALKING about going for several years now but that's all it has been so far is TALK. He didn't even finish his part of the conversation before I said, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! OF COURSE I WANT TO GO!!!! So now the plans are being set to make a five day trip to Utah. Four of us old car guys will be flying out and spending three days on the salt as "Rookie Spectators". I know many of you folks have been there and done it, probably some have been there numerous times, but I am really excited about my first trip. We have already booked our rooms at the Wendover Nugget Hotel & Casino and we will be booking our flights soon. Yea Ha!!

I wish we were driving or trailering our cars out.... but, oh well....maybe the next time.

Now, who else from the Fordbarn is possibly planning to be there this year for Speed Week?? Let me know here or with a PM/E-Mail. I would like to meet up with any of you who are going. Thanks!!

You will have the time of your life! I have been many, many times as it's hot rod meccain my book. Be prepared though, you go once it's hard to stay away after the salt gets in your blood. I won't be going this year as I just have too much on my plate and not enough vacation time to do all I want.

One hint, don't let the car rental place know you're going to the Salt. They don't allow it.

john dont forget the sun glasses!!!! you will need them.. i acually wore shorts but it didnt bother me as im in them all year .try to get into the pits wow you will have the time of your life,plus check out the cars that go on display trev nz

Been there every year for the last 9 years as a crew member on this car. Might have to skip out this year. But it is a really neat place. Have fun, wear sun screen, sunglasses and a hat. This video was from last August when we ran 426MPH and then we returned in September for the Shootout meet and ran 441, 449, and 462 MPH.

I'm planning on going again this year with a friend to help crew his Corvette. We had problems last year, but hope to do much better this year!

You are about to become infected by a virus that you will NEVER be able, nor want to be cured of. I speak of that glorious illness "Salt Fever". I contracted this many many years ago and the the symptoms begin to show themselves at the middle of June sometime around father's day and increase in intensity and frequency until the 2nd week in august when I get in my truck and set it on Bonneville auto pilot! You will have a great time and lifetime memories. You might look at landracing.com for info also. The salt talks at the bend in the road are great too. hope to see you there. It really is hot rodding at it's finest. The illness will almost disappear after speedweek but will return around the time I already wrote about so be prepared..

I'm goin'. Hope to have the cycle fendered, flathead powered, '36 stakebed there for Wendover cruz'n. Purchased a Cushman for pit cruz'n. Learned a lot about the future belly tank project last year and will probably learn more this year.

The mention of Bonneville brings back that"Salt Fever", yes i got the Salt Fever for the first time in 2003 at age 68, and was able to < Soothe> the Fever in 2006, and so the Fever will never go away.

But sad to say it does'nt look like i'll be going back, because of age, financial problems, travel and lodging arrangement, ect., i will always have good memories.

I always want to go just once, so I did. That was in 1988! Read the above about salt fever, there is no cure. I will be in a little red F150 thats kind of low, hanging out in the 416 pit or with Wayno. I have the pleasure this year of bringing a salt virgin along, I am as excited for him as for me.

Only a little over two weeks to go until we will be walking on the salt . I would like to see how fast our rental car would go on two consecutive runs I wonder who currently holds this record .
