Default 39 accelerator peddle hole

In the floor of the 39 where the rod for accelerator peddle goes through the floor. Right now my rod is catching the floor causing the rpm to be higher than it should. Seems to me there should be some type of sleeve that holds the rod straight and prevent the rod from sliding in all sorts of directions. Am I correct or is it just a hole in floor?

Also if just a hole, any you inventor Barners make this ugly hole look and help rod from hanging up?

The hinge where the pedal bolts to the wood floor is what keeps it straight. Have seen them with a small hole along with the bolt hole for a wood screw to aid in preventing the pedal from moving around. One other cause can be a worn out pedal that has a lot of wear and play in the hinge.

The authentic pedals had both ends turned down to form a "V" tip of sorts. Those two tips dug into the wood when the singular bolt was installed.

Also, if you've replaced the pedal, the reproduction may not have been made correctly. The authentic pedal had the hole for the rod offset to the left. Many repops I've seen have the hole in the center.

If you have the rubber floor mat it can also hang up on the mat.

Thanks it’s not the mat. I took a dremil and grinded back the area it’s getting hung up. The pedal is worn, guess that’s one more “to do”.

on mine there is a small rubber seal with a hole for the rod in the floorboard. helps keep rod centered. this seal is on the underside and is stapled to the wood.
