Default Stuck Clutch Plate

Gents, I friend has a stuck clutch plate that for no apparent reason became stuck while driving !!! He tried to depress the clutch while slowing down at an intersection and no go; the clutch is not releasing the clutch plate from the flywheel. We can see the pressure plate (V8 clutch) fingers moving and observed the pressure plate function as it should however the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel. Anyone ever experience this? The springs on the clutch plate are all in place, the throw out bearing is moving forward as it should with an inch of freeplay as required. No work has been done on the assembly in years and this is a daily driver.

You might want to try jacking up the rear end. Start car in gear. Push in clutch and hit service brakes while holding clutch peddle down. If this does not free clutch, I would start thinking about how I was going to remove it. Enjoy.

I was first thinking about a broken clutch release arm until I read the post. I think I agree with jw.

I would still look at the release arm. It may be just broken enough to not give you full travel. Easy fix and worth a “crawl under”. One just broke in our club.

If its stuck because of grease or oil accumulation you can spray it with brake clean thru the inspection and lube cover.

I would think that grease and oil would lead to slipping not sticking?

Fixed !! it was one of the three V8 clutch fingers. It had un pinned / displaced itself from the pressure plate so when the throw out bearing was pushed forward, only 2 of the 3 fingers were moving the clutch assembly.

That's not the first one to do that, it's the ones that have a C-clip holding
the pin in. The good ones have a cotter pin holding the pin.

Bob, your 100 % correct! The V8 site talks about giving the pins a little blast of the welder at both ends to ensure they will never work their way out.
