I have the documentation on the D vs caged nuts but I can't find it nor remember which had which. Also I don't have a Town Sedan but a Standard Fordor. Tag on fire wall says Briggs.

Yeah I'm learning woodwork too. First thing I'd reccommend you do is go to a local saw mill a buy some 2' thick Ash planks. Not the nominal size 2" that's really 1 5/8", I mean 2'' on size. Next get a small Planer and a belt sander. I'm assuming you have a drill press, a table saw,and a vernier caliper. You'll probably figure out anything else you need as you go along! Take your old wood out very gently, You'll need it for patterns. I'm finishing the wood with 2 coats of polyurethane and a final coat of black paint. I took out the right side ( the worst) and I am using the left side as a pattern to reassemble. Once the right side is complete and fitted, I will go after the left side. I am going to be cutting another Ash log so if anyone near Quakertown, Pa is thinking of doing this, I will have a small amount of 2" planks for sale.
