I just bought a set of cad lug nuts from Bratton's and mine torque up ok but have to be started vary carfully or they will cross thread

They may not be holding as much as you think. I'd find some originals and paint them silver before I'd take any chances. In 1976 I was on a race track driving a Corvette and the left front wheel came off. I'm lucky to be here.
