Default Bubba distributor skips a beat ????

I am glad we dont get very many returns or problems , but when we do it drives me nuts. Two customers have had a problem in the last few months with our late model chevrolet conversion. In all we have shipped over 2500 of these units with little or very few issues. (and when a issue occurs we fix it on all our units from that point on) I dont have a list but we have isolated and fixed many design changes over the years.
This unit skips a cylinder or two . Starts great but skips when you rev it up. I did all i could do for the customer thru emails etc . Finally i said lets pick it up and look it over here at the shop.
The grandson opened it up today and said i dont think this is right (he has put a few of these together ). Holey shit..looks like the condensor wire has been hitting the rotor screw ????? A bend in the wire and it wont do that again..repaired with some nail polish...........ya just never know....

Good catch for the Grandson. You can see the debris from the screw hitting the wire.

Maybe shorten the rotor screw so it doesn't poke out so far too...

Good catch by your grandson! It doesn’t take much to cause an ignition hiccup.

Only if you know what you are looking at. Seems to be my problem, most of the time now.

I would also have changed to shorter screws or put another washer under the head so there would be no protrusion.

Was it your car? If so I retract my rude comment.

Personally, I usually find things like that. However it is almost always through sheer desperation.

I had that happen once on my C**** that was originally equipped with a distributor of that nature. I was told that the condenser wire should go UNDER the looped ground wire. (Somebody else had done me a favor and put in a new set of points and ran the condenser wire up over the ground wire.)

I was wrong with my post above. The condenser lead doesn't go under the ground lead, it goes under the primary lead per the shop manual. This is to prevent exactly what happened here.

In all fairness the wire may have been tucked up further when the customer installed the cap. The cap needs to be off to install the distributor. An honest mistake and as stated above routing it differently would have averted this problem.
