Interesting item that I've heard: Henry Ford wasn't carried to his final resting place in a Ford, Mercury or Lincoln hearse. It was a Packard, I think.

Tuberculosis is contagious, and I believe was still going strong thru the '40s.

Read about Henry Ford II going to hire Bunkie Knudson from GM. Had secret meeting in exclusive Detroit area, had to ride in an Oldsmobile to not raise attention. Not sure if true or not but worth a laugh. No FOMOCO hearses around here, told wife I'm going in the back of our truck or I will haunt her.

Here's a HOT NEWS FLASH -

TB is still alive and walks amongst us. I lived in WDC METRO for many years. About ten or so years ago, fast food joints began using work teams (outside labor) consisting mostly of illegals. One girl in this fast food restaurant began to have a cough. It went on for a few weeks until it dawned on someone to take her to a doctor.

Yep, she brought TB across, as COVID is being allowed across now unchecked.

So the next time you are suffering a BIG MAC ATTACK, think about it.

Most likely, that hearse was the make the funeral home was using in it's fleet.

Henry didn't request a FORD specific hearse quickly enough.

That's one way to keep the souvenir hunters and grave robbers out. Detroit is a wonderful city these days.

I doubt if the Ford family gave it much thought at the time as far as the make and model of hearse that was needed. Custom bodied Ford ambulances and hearses were available but I'm sure that a lot of the local mortuary businesses wanted higher end cars.

I've not seen too many Hearses based on the the post war Lincoln cars or even the immediate pre-war Lincoln cars. The Model K would have been the best to modify but they quit making them in late 1939. The coach builders preferred the big Cadillac, Packard, and Chrysler Imperial type cars due to the way they were shaped. The Lincolns had the long tapered fast back look on the fordor types and the Continental was too short in the rear end.

I bought the book "The Last Days of Henry Ford" by Henry Dominguez a few years back. His timing was good as he got interviews with people that were there when Henry died before they also passed. Has the only known color picture of Henry. I thought it was an honest book. No attempt to sugar coat his life. He was a great man but flawed like most humans.

In order to save money on funeral expenses, I'm going to have them throw my corpse in the back of my '55 Ford Courier sedan delivery wagon. They're putting me in a grave-plot that was meant for one of my ancestors, who had become estranged from the family and wound up in a veterans cemetery. He served in WWII. A row of grave-plots there was paid for by my Grandpa back in the '40's so that each of his kids would have a final resting place with Grandma & Grandpa at the head of the row. So, I lucked out on that too.
