And the Barn Goodguy award goes to.............
CharlieNY. After a world of problems and several "experts" with the 94's on my 39's motor, I sent the two carbs to Charlie. He'd come highly recommended on the Barn. For my money I received back two 94's that were rebuilt with new throttle shafts. I bolted them on. They fired right up and I don't remember even having to adjust the idle. They were right and continue to be so.
Naturally I sent Charlie the two 94 carbs from my present A-V8 build. I got back two as new, clean carbs as anticipated. Then I noticed a sliver missing from one that opened into the accelerator pump chamber. It was small and I figured Charlie had just missed it. To me it looked like a massive fuel leak waiting to happen. I immediately sent it back after some quick internet chat with Charlie. I had my carb back in about 4 days. Turns out that I hadn't seen this flaw on the old carb I sent to him. He said what appeared to be a flaw was actually a factory modification that he'd seen only a few times in his experience. I believe him in that the "sliver" appeared very neat, like it had been there from the factory. Why it was there I can't tell you. Long story made longer, Charlie exchanged the 94 top for a new one, then sent it back along with money to cover my shipping. In the second decade of this new and deplorable decade it's refreshing to find a man who's passionate to stand behind his work and reputation. I'm confident these carbs will run just as well as my other two. |

More kudos for Charlie; he did a SBC Mallory conversion for me. When I got it back from him, there was a decent refund included, because the distributor was in such good shape. You don't see that, ever. The only down side is that he included a picture of his '40-'41 pickup, which just made me jealous!

Re: And the Barn Goodguy award goes to.............
Russ,
I occasionally see this relief milled on the gasket face of the air horn. The relief appears to be made with a 1/2" dia ball end mill (my guess) and it always goes across the portion of the air horn that covers the upper part of the accelerator pump assembly. It 'vents' that particular area and extends from the venturri all the way to the outside face of the air horn. The cut is about .015 deep by maybe 3/16 across. If I see this 5 or 6 times a year that is about it........every air horn with this feature is the same. I sensed that Pat was not comfortable so I switched air horns.........it's not a big deal and I'm pretty sure Pat will continue with me. Charlie ny PS Thanks for the kind words and my sincere appreciation to all my patient customer when things do not go well ! |

What draws me to Charlie is the fact that he runs the carbs on a engine before sending them back......................neat option.......

If you haven't met Charlie in person attend a EFV8 meet and do so. He will talk to you like he's been your friend for life. Great personality, one of the best here as many have said.

Stop in and say thanks in person to Charlie at Hershey, he is in Red Field near the stadium. Top notch work and follow through. In addition to rebuilding, Charley is an expert machinist.
