today I went for a drive and I could not keep my spt cp. running at a stop...yesterday when I drove it it ran fine but today it just wants to stall...I did'nt do anything to it ..if I push vac.to retard it stall and barly run at full advance....tried to adjust carb but still stalls any suggestions?

Vacuum leak? Leak around manifold?

Adjustment screw could have vibrated on the carb, I've had that happen to me before...

Does it idle ok when the engine is cold? If the problem is only after warmup, this thread will soon be taking an ugly turn.

I had a similar problem last spring, It ended being the Idle jet, the long one that hangs down from the top part of the carb, I took it out and cleaned it. Perfect.

Just for grins and giggles, take a quick look at the points-- some times the A will do this if they close up.

The stalling is caused by the float being set too high. If the float is set too high it will cause too much gas to enter the bowl of the carb. Too much gas in the bowl will slosh foward and then back, causing the engine to stall apon brakeing.The other problems are not related. I don't understand what you mean by when you push the vac to retard. It sounds like the timing isn't set properly. The points gap is probably also off.

thanks for the info ...only thing I can think of is I took a wolf whisle off the manifold and plugged it...maybe a leake there...

Get it running and squirt some carb cleaner on suspect areas of a vac leak. RPMs will go up if there's a leak when the cleaner gets sucked in. Found a gremlin in a two-piece Nash intake this way.
