Not Model A related, but car related
Need some info, I have a 85 yearold Aunt who is living in a retirement home in the Tacoma area in Washington stste. She still has a car which we need to sell, she has let the registration expire and the car needs to get smogged, I will be driving up from California in a few weeks to take care of the issue. As I have never delt with Washington DMV I have a few questions, 1. can I get a 1 day permit to drive the car so I can get it smogged? 2. Where do you get it? 3. any ideas on the fees for a 1998 ford escort (she lost the reg paperwork? When I go online I can't get any info because it says it needs to be smogged)! If anyone has any ideas please email me at

Just register it with your California address in Thurston County (Olympia).

Re: Not Model A related, but car related
Seems to me the last trip permit I got was about $20 and good for 3 days. I get mine at the local courthouse auditors office. DMV might work too. I know that cars licensed in Spokane need to be smoged but not where I live in Adams county. Would assume that Seattle and Tacoma would also need it too (although with the "Tacoma aroma" who would be able to smell your car "poluting"). I would think that with a title and trip permit you could legaly "get out of town" without being smoged. If she lost her title she will have to apply for a lost title. The car is new enough that it will be in the DMV system and hopfuly not take too long. If just the registration that might be quicker. Transfering the title on my 28 tudor took for ever because it had not been in the system for 50+ years. Good luck.
