wedding decoaration ideas
Hi All,
Ok, I asked my GF to marry and she said yes! So now we have a date set for next Sept. So here is my question: What is the best way to decorate my A? It will have to hold up to freeway speeds. I was thinking tin cans tied behind her. Not sure if there is enough room to write on her windows with the white pen thingy. Any other ideas? Mike

Check with the Police/DMV, many if not all states tin cans has been illegal to do for quite a while. If you do decide to do the cans use a decent gauge/tough wire so they do not come loose and cause a road hazard. Congratulations. |

Nix the cans but do make sure the car is up to freeway speeds!

Not going to use the tin can thing on the freeway. Maybe shoes? I saw that in WB carton once.

Same thing, check with the Police/DMV. If you are at speed and they let loose could fly into someone's windshield, crack a windshield, startle someone causing them to swerve and cause an accident. Would make a crappy wedding day.

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
How about getting some water based markers, testing them a freshly waxed car paint in a hidden place to make sure it washes off and does not damage paint. Then have the Guests or Wedding Party decorate the car - "Hot Springs or Bust", etc.

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
On second thought, maybe use some Christmas Decorations (Gold or Silver). Time and price is right at 99 cent store...

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
My best man thought tin cans "tacky" so he used his dad's tire chains. I didn't stop for 12 miles with ten cars following. He wasn't too happy, nor was his father, but his mom stood up for me. "He's a nice young man!" BTW good for a laugh now, I suckered in when my sister-in-law offered to pack my suitcase. I was still shaking rice out of my underwear three months later.
NO suggestions, everything is "too dangerous" now, and especially so in California so I am told." |

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
For wedding photos using my Model A as a back drop, I'd make a license plate with the bride & groom's names (if Possible) and have them stand in front of the car on either side of the plate for photos.
I really don't care about DMV BUT your insurance company won't cover you if you use your car to transport any of the bridal party....viewed as a commercial enterprise, not personal use. IF you only accept a meal at the party, that can be considered as a payment. Be careful. |

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
When I use one of my Sedans in a Wedding I put the Bride and Grooms names on
one of the rear windows with a couple of wedding bells using vinyl graphics. It makes a good picture thru the window. I put "Just Married" in the rear window up near the top it also makes for a good picture with them looking out thru the window. Some put bows and things on the radiator and bumpers. |

We tied tin cans on the car and drove it around the church parking lot, for the effect and photos, then removed them for driving on the city streets.

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
My grandparents chauffeured a family members wedding once and made a JUST MARRIED sign cut to fit the spare on the rear. Everyone thought it looked pretty good.
Congrats! |

It doesn't hurt to ask for a local police escort with flashing lights. All they say is no.

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
We've had our A in several weddings at this point. Also proms and the like. We made up a period looking "Just Married" sign we attach to the rear, put white bows on the radiator and each door handle. Nothing that would stand up to a high-speed run though.
Our insurance agent told us that as long as we don't charge anything, and the actual driving distance wasn't large, we should be OK. We only offer the cars for family or close friends events. One event was in downtown Philly, so we put the decorations on once we were at the hotel. I doubt you'd want anything that might fly off on the car anyway. Two other events were in downtown DC, so we trailered to the location of the reception, and decorated the car there. We decorate the cars and let people help under our supervision, but don't just let folks do what they want.

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
I once attended a wedding on top of Davis Dam right on the border line of Arizona and California. Yes I still call it the "Dam Wedding".
It was particularly interesting that we were all gathered there and up pulls a small RV with a prominent sign "Matrimony Mobile" and out stepped a lady minister for a 10 minute ceremony. That was about 20 years ago and the marriage is still going strong. Perhaps just borrow the Matrimony Mobile moniker in BonAmi on the rear side windows. |

Re: wedding decoaration ideas
On second thought, maybe just a Just Married sign on the spare tire and some both gender under garments securely attached under the sign
