Model A horn question
What size is the screw that holds the horn cover on the model A horn (mine is a Stewart Warner)?
It looked like a 10-32, but it is not. The thread count is 32, the size is however, slightly smaller. What do I care? Because removing the horn cover for cleaning and lubrication is something that is needed once in a while, but getting the horn cover screw started is a PIA while the horn is on the car. So I bought these really nice nylon (no chance of shorting out the brush which rides under this screw) one inch (the original screw is 3/4") 10-32 screw. I thought I would put a slight taper on the end of this screw so finding and starting the screw in the threaded hole in the horn frame would be a snap! Of course that won't work since the hole in the horn frame is slightly too small! I could (and probably will) run a 10-32 tap through the hole and make it the right size for my screw, but I would rather keep the horn all original and find the correct size screw. Could it be metric? |
