Default regulator adjustment issue

I have just installed a newly rebuilt generator and a new voltage regulator on my 55 ford 6v system
Here is my issue. ……
Measured from the alternator, at the armature connection, at idle the multimeter shows the generator is putting out 6.9-volts. However at a higher RPM (1500 to 2000 RPM with the lights and radio on the generator light comes on.
How to adjust the new NAPA regulator to correct this ? Also, which set of points do I adjust, the armature, the field or the voltage limiter ?

There is no better source of info than the FORD SHOP MANUAL. You will get all sorts of answers and theories here and few will be correct.

If my scanner was working, I would copy and post the pages. Also take into consideration, a VR must match the AMP of the GEN.

Default Re: regulator adjustment issue

The 55 ford shop manual does explain the adjustment procedure for a VR made in 1955. The NAPA VR looks different on the inside compared to the one I took off the car which was an early ford one.
I know that the adjustment is made thru the points distances but the ford manual does not give a point separation in thousandths they only describe electrical volt & amp changes when adjusting. Difficult to do.
I will call NAPA tomorrow to see the VR I bought matches a 40 amp generator.

The armature relay. It is a spring tension adjustment.

... hmm ...

Forgot about aftermarket.

See if this helps (DELCO-REMY) - https://itstillruns.com/delcoremy-ge...g-8725750.html

Sorry about that. I think only NOS or dedicated repro.
