Default Question on a tool..........

I moved a Flathead engine on a stand today to a machine shop for a hot tank and magnaflux. One of my cheapo Walmart ratcheting straps was 'bound' up pretty tightly and it was un-usable.

My neighbor Jim came to the rescue and loaned me a set of self-retracting ratcheting straps. I loved them they work great!

My question is, does anyone use these and how is the longevity? Does that retracting mechanism hold up or is it toast after a few uses? They appeared to be 1" by 6' with about a 500 pound capacity. I returned them immediately after I was done with them, I never keep a borrowed tool past the time I used it.

Sehr Dank. And have a good weekend.

Jeff , I have two pair of these , they are " Smart Strap"s , [ the name on them ] , that I have had about six years I think . i like them , sometimes I have to help the retracting mechanism work , but I have used them for hauling my hit miss engines and golf cart many times with no problems .

How are the Smart strap over Harbor Freight's regular ratchet strap?

I find the HF straps quite useful- but no longevity.

for the price you pay- they get the job done and then you toss them.

I buy my ratchet straps from New Haven Moving Supplies. Heavy duty items. In 20 years of daily use I have never had one break. https://www.newhaven-usa.com/product...6-w-nhvcs-hook
