Default 64 years..

Not so unusual., but today is out 64th wedding anniversary.

What makes it so special, is that my bride of 64 years "tolerated" me when I restored 2.5 Model As. The last one could not be completed due to Jane having COPD.

My shop is in the lower level of our home, and even thought I tried real hard to keep obnoxious fumes from backdrafting upstairs, it never did clean up the air.

I had to sell the CCPU. Brace Bailey bought it.

Message? if you are at or close to our situation, be very glad you have an understanding wife. She also tolerates us in special ways..

Larry.

For the both of you, your sincere touching heartfelt message says a lot about:

1. Your keen ability to thoroughly evaluate each other prior to making life long choices.

2. Your sincere commitment to uphold your agreement and marriage contract.

3. Your honesty, integrity, and profound respect for one another in difficult times.

4. Your ability to stick together through "all" of life's past experiences.

I am sure others could add more admirable compliments for Larry Jenkins and his wife after 64 years together; however, I just want to add these few comments and best wishes from all of us.

I come to the Ford Barn every day. If I see a question I might be able to answer, I try. I have to remember it's been 34 years ago that my 1931 Deluxe Roadster took Best of Show in 1983. Things change..

Gonna be 86. So tolerate an old fart.. Me and Bill..

Hi Larry,

Per response #7, two (2) persons staying together for 64 years takes lots of daily, deep true "respect" for each other.

If one "loves" someone today, it can mean jumping in a Model A rumble seat with the opposite sex and loving them; or a minister loving someone because he gave an enormous contribution from where nobody knows where; however, if one truly "respects" anyone, it means you will never "ever" try to hurt this person or even their reputation.

Thanks for sharing you profound respect for your wife ... true respect can never ever be given away to your wife .... it will always bounce back from her!

Larry,

Be happy you still have her, I lost the love of my wife after 60 years of marriage; it will be 3 years this coming September 29th; she was involved in the hobby and we went together on all outings, we were members MAFCA since 1962.

Hope you have many more years of happy marriage !!!!!!!!

Larry you cant be a bad guy if she stuck with you all these years. 64 years is amazing, and I am very sorry to hear about her health problems.

Nowadays if someone's marriage lasts 6 years, that is an accomplishment. Heck, that is if they got married at all.

This makes me feel like a real youngster as my wife and I have been married only 56 years and she road as a girlfriend in my Model A when I was 15 in 1951. Since we were not legal to drive, we stayed to the back roads. Great fun and stiil riding to the super market in an A. And somehow 6 kids came along but didn't fit very well in the 31 coupe. Congratulations;;; Jack

My In-laws celebrated their 69th wedding aniversary in February this year. They've had their ups and downs over the years, as well as "in sickness or health. We're blessed to have them here still. I remember a few years ago my father-in-law did not speak to my mother-in-law for nearly 3 months. He didn't want to interrupt her.!
Congratulations on 64 years. All the Best. . Jeff

Congratulations Larry Jenkins! My wife and I also just celebrated our 64th wedding anniversary, married May 30, 1953. I am now 89, she is 88. Have had, but sold, (sniff) 1930 deluxe roadster, 1928 tudor, 1929 tudor, 1930 sport coupe, and a 1932 five-window B. Still active in the garage though, and active with Fordbarn almost every day. Still have a running 1927 Chrysler sedan that has been in our family since 1945. I am third owner. Even with COPD, kidney problems, and a stent in the heart, my goal is to reach 90. Wish me luck!

Larry, the best too you and your wife of 64 years ! It was a great pleasure talking to you about your truck and was crushed when you sold it. Wound up buying an early 28 AA about 75% restored with numbers matching. Quite a story behind this truck and I know there's a great story behind your A's and your marriage to your wife. Will always regret not making it down there to see you. Who knows, maybe someday we will meet. Wishing you and yours the best, Pat

Thank you, Pat.. We tried. Yes, I have many stories about Model As including 7 articles about restoring them in major magazines. Felt good about "paying forward."

You are welcome anytime..

To Larry and the bride, Thank you for taking the time to share just a small part of your experience on this big blue ball we live on. I come to the barn in the morning before the news because it gets my frame of mind in the direction it needs to be. And the stories in this post alone warms my heart in ways that reframes my mind toward humanity. The LORD has blessed you both but I understand it take work from us to accept that blessing. As you look into her eyes and recall the tears and smiles and deep belly laughing you have had, remember there are a lot of us pulling for you both !!! Larry
